AUDITION NOTICE

The Oro Valley Theatre Company will hold open auditions for the opening production of its 2026–2027 season, The Odd Couple (Female Version) by Neil Simon.

As part of its 10th Anniversary Season, OVTC is bringing back the very show that launched the company a decade ago. Directed by veteran director Judi Rodman, founder of the company, Judi is coming out of retirement to bring this hysterical production back to the stage once again. Neil Simon’s hilarious reimagining of his classic comedy replaces Felix and Oscar with Florence and Olive — creating an updated, fast-paced version filled with sharp humor, lovable characters, and unforgettable comic situations.

This hilarious comedy will run November 12–15 at Gaslight Music Hall, with rehearsals beginning in late September/early October.

No prepared monologue is required. Auditioners will be asked to read from the script. Paper audition forms will be available at auditions.

About the Show

Neil Simon’s revised version of his hugely successful comedy transforms the original lead characters into Olive Madison and Florence Unger. Olive and her group of girlfriends gather for their weekly Trivial Pursuit night in Olive’s messy apartment when Florence arrives, newly separated from her husband. Concerned for Florence’s emotional state, Olive invites her to move in.

The arrangement quickly becomes chaotic as Olive’s carefree, sloppy lifestyle clashes with Florence’s obsessive cleanliness and highly strung personality. When Olive arranges a double date with the Costazuela brothers, tensions rise and sparks fly.

Cast

 

Olive Madison

A successful television producer. Intelligent, wisecracking, and funny, but a complete slob when it comes to her apartment. She loves sports, is a loyal friend, and remains a pushover for her ex-husband.

 

Florence Unger
Extremely neat and well-groomed, recently separated from her husband. Florence takes herself very seriously and is obsessively clean, organized, and domestic. She is intelligent and warm-hearted in her own way, but has little sense of humor about herself.

Sylvie
Desperately trying to quit smoking, often chewing gum or sucking on lollipops. Easily irritated by her friends, but has a sharp sense of humor.

Mickey
A police officer who is practical, direct, and insightful. She sometimes takes her “cop” role too seriously and likes to stay in control.

 

Renee
Sylvie’s outspoken best friend. Single and dating a doctor, she is blunt and honest, especially when critiquing Olive’s — and later Florence’s — hosting skills.

Vera
Sweet, kind, and slightly spacey. Though intelligent, she is often a step behind the others. Naturally funny without realizing it.

Manolo Costazuela
Handsome, polished, and Spanish. Charming and romantic, he showers Olive and Florence with attention. Requires excellent comic timing and emotional range.

Jesus Costazuela
Manolo’s younger brother. Also handsome and romantic, with excellent posture and a flair for dramatic emotion. Sensitive and sincere.
